HOW TO DETERMINE WHOM TO DELETE AND WHOM TO RETAIN

MARKETING CLOUD IS NOT A DATA WAREHOUSE BUT A MARKETING TOOL. SEGMENTATIONS AND THE SOURCE OF TRUTH SHOULD BE MAINTAINED OUTSIDE MARKETING CLOUD.

MAREKTING CLOUD CONNECT IS NOW COMPATIBLE WITH ALL CRM TOOLS AND ITS DESIGNED FOR DATA MANAGMENT , SEGMENTATION AND CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT.  YOU CAN ALSO INJEST DATA FROM THIRD PARTY VIA REST API CALL.

WHAT ARE THE BEST PRACTICES YOU SHLOUD CONSIDER TO KEEP YOUR GARDEN FREE OF WEEDS ?

SUBSCRIBERS FLOW AND BUSINESS UNIT ARCHITECTURE IS THE KEY, HERE IS THE LINK WHICH CAN BE CONSIDERED DURING YOUR ACCOUNT/BUSINESS UNIT SET UP.

UNDERSTOOD! BUT NOW, HOW TO CLEAR THE GARDEN FULL OF WEEDS?

POINTS TO CONSIDER FOR CLEAN UP :

1. FIND OUT SUBSCRIBERS WHO REPORTED SPAM

https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_data_view_complaint.htm&type=5

SPAM COMPLAINT HAS A UNIQUE USE CASE THAT MADE ME WRITE AN ARTICLE ABOUT IT - https://b2shashi.blogspot.com/2022/08/spam-compliant.html

2. FIND OUT SUBSCRIBERS WHO ARE  IN HELD AND BOUNCED STATUS

https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_data_view_bounce.htm&type=5

3.  FIND OUT SUBSCRIBERS WHO HAVE HAD UNSUBSCRIBED SINCE LONG (90 DAYS OR MORE)

https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?d=sf.mc_as_data_view_unsubscribe.htm&type=5

FROM THESE 3 DATA VIEWS WE CAN MAKE AN EDUCATED GUESS IF OUR CONTACT DATA IS FULL OF WEEDS OR NOT. IF THE NUMBER IS SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH, I WOULD PROCEED WITH MY DATA DELETION.

WHAT IF, THE ABOVE DATA IS QUITE LESS SIGNIFICANT, AND, OUR ALL CONATCTS HAS INFALTED BIG AND TO MAINTAIN THE LICENSE OF THE CURRENT MARTKETING CLOUD WE ANYHOW NEED TO CLEAN UP THE DATA.

NEXT APPROACH :

1. LOOKUP FOR THE RECENT CAMPAIGN RUNS FROM JOB DATA VIEW , IT GIVES A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY ABOUT RECENT JOBS.

https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_data_view_job.htm&type=5

2. LOOKUP FOR SUBSCRIBERS THAT WERE ENGAGED BY THE JOBS THAT WE GATHERED FROM JOB DATA VIEW

https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_data_view_sent.htm&type=5

3. COMBINE JOB DATA VIEW WITH SENT , OPEN AND CLICK TO FIND OUT SUBSCRIEBRS WHO ARE EITHER OPENING AND CLICKING ON THE EMAIL

https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_data_view_open.htm&type=5

OPEN AND CLICK DATA VIEW HAS SOME DISCREPANCIES , IF YOU ARE INTERESTED TO LEARN, HERE IS THE LINK :  https://b2shashi.blogspot.com/2022/08/email-interactions-and-tracking.html

4. AFTER COMBINIG ALL THSES DATA VIEW, I NOW CAN MAKE AN EDUCATE GUESS WHO ALL I NEED TO RETAIN AND WHOM I CAN DELETE FROM ALL CONTACTS.

WHAT IS THE ISSUE, IF, WE CLEAN ALL THE DATA FROM MARKETING CLOUD?

IN HINDSIGNT I DON'T SEE ANY ISSUE AT A FIRST GLANCE, BECAUSE WHEN I START SENDING COMMUNICATIONS THOSE SUBSCRIBERS WILL BE ADDED TO ALL CONTACTS AUTOMATICALLY, SO, WHAT WILL BE LOST?  WE LOOSE THEIR TRACKING INFORMATION AND IF WE HAVE LINKED THE SUBSCRIBER ID WITH ANY UPSTREAM SYSTEM WE LOOSE THE REALTIONSHIP AND THE NEW SUBSCRIER ID WILL NOT HAVE 1-1 REATIONSHIPS.
